Carbide Turning Tools
If you haven't already made the switch to use carbide turning tools, now's the time. I switched several years ago and haven't used anything else since. All of the radius and square bits have 4 sharp sides which can be rotated when one side becomes dull. So you can get a lot of use out of each insert. These cut very smooth and make turning harder materials like tru-stone, horn, bone, etc much easier. We were sad when we weren't able to get the woodchuck version any longer, but we were able to have some new ones custom made from a new source and have even lowered the price a bit from the Woodchuck. So we have added 3 new tools to replace the Woodchuck. These are very similar to the woodchuck and are of excellent quality and made in the US. There are 2 sizes of the standard tool. Both of these accept the 15mm square and radius cutter inserts (R2, R4 & R6) as well as a round 16mm insert.
The top one in the picture is a longer version for bowls or other larger turnings. It has a 1/2" bar with a 7" body and 3" tang. We are including the R4 and Round 16mm inserts with this tool. The middle tool is the version recommended for pens. The R4 and R6 inserts are included with this tool. It's also on a 1/2" bar but has a 4" body and a 3" tang. And then finally, we have added a detailer tool which has a diamond shaped cutter. This one is set on a 3/8" bar and similar to the pen tool has a 4" body and 3" tang. Includes one diamond cutter. All of the tools also come with a hex wrench and ferrule. All that's needed is to turn your own handle. We have a few handle options available and will be adding some more soon.
